Potty Time: It’s happening!

As a momma to three boys, potty training (or potty learning) has NEVER been my forte. EVER! In fact, I can honestly say it’s my least favorite part of parenting. As a momma to three boys, potty training (or potty learning) has NEVER been my forte. EVER! In fact, I can honestly say it’s my least favorite part of parenting. Naturally, Ben being 2 (and a half-ish) now, it was bound to start happening… potty time.

A few days ago, my pregnancy hormones took over when I had a massive toddler poo happen. Ben had hopped into the baby’s crib and just let go… Oh boy did he let go. It was awful! Poop everywhere! His diaper must have leaked because IT. WAS. EVERYWHERE!

I was done. It was a turning point for me and I thought, “it’s time, no more toddler poop!”

So I brought out our little potty seat and set it up in the living room (I know, attractive decor right?) I asked Ben to wear undies and he refused, so I dropped it and let him go without a diaper while secretly thinking I was making a huge mistake. I had him sit on the potty once and as incentive, handed him a marker (we don’t do markers because of the potential markings/art everywhere) and some paper. He colored the paper, colored his legs, arms, and baby sister. No pee. We took a break and tried again… He colored his favorite Mickey chair. Stood up, and peed on the floor.

Oh boy, I knew we were in for a long day! Well after realizing he did not like standing in his own pee… He tried again later and succeeded! He peed in the potty! Words could not express how proud I was at that very moment!

We are now 3 days into this journey and so far, no accidents! My little guy is picking up on this new trend really well and I’m feeling like my baby is growing way too fast. Maybe it’s just my pregnancy hormones, but I just can’t believe how fast he’s grown. Then again, I get the same nostalgic feelings when I take a look at my 12 & 10 year olds… How on earth did a decade pass with my beautiful boys? I’m one blessed and proud momma this Thanksgiving week.
